The Family Stone is the story of a family of two parents and their adult children, three sons and two daughters. Like many families, the Stones gather at the parents home every Christmas to celebrate the holidays.

During this particular Christmas, the Stones’ must welcome son Everett’s new girlfriend Meredith, a woman who clearly does not fit into the Stone mold.

I found this to be an enjoyable movie for the most part, from the trailers I had been expected something along the lines of an understated Meet the Parents, however, the movie stayed away from falling into the same storyline. In fact, it had a more serious/somber tone as the story progressed and there were a few “sniffing” moments. I also liked how each of the major characters had their moments in the movie instead of having the movie focus totally on Sarah Jessica Parker, without this, it wouldn’t have been apparent why the characters in the movie treated Meredith the way that they did.

I did find some of the situations that Meredith found herself in to be almost painfully ackward between the family trying to make things difficult for her, and her personality and opinions clashing with those of the Stones’ which made viewing the movie just a tad uncomfortable at times but the movie moved quick enough that those scenes didn’t linger on for too long before moving on the next scene.

Overall, I think it’s a worth while to see at least once.
